Book Quote

Hello forum,

I have to provide a quote on the design/production of a book.

The specs:
• memoir format
• approx. 400 pages
• 10-15 b/w interior images
• self-published
• paperback

I have never quoted on a book before, so any range of figures would be much appreciated.

I highly recommend that you talk with any printing company that you plan to work with on this project before commencing.

Prices vary per region of the world, even region within a large continent or country. It's very hard to give a definitive figure.

However, I usually charge an hourly rate on a set number of pages - for example your book is 400 pages.

I usually charge at 15 pages per hour - this would be 400/15 = 26.6 hours work.

I'd then multiply the 26.6 x hourly rate to get the final estimate.

15 pages an hour doesn't seem like a lot - but there's a lot that goes into making a book - designing the layout, picking font styles, colours, and even setting up the 10-15 b/w interior image section could be difficult enough.

Do you plan on printing the 10-15 b/w interior images on different stock paper (perhaps high gloss paper) or on the same stock as the rest of the book (matt paper)?
