Well, there are a couple of things you can do. You first need to think about why you go rejected. Was it that your style did not fit the needs of the company or could it have been something else? Take the reason why you think you got rejected (without downgrading the company that rejected you) and try to learn from it. Self evaluate so that you can avoid rejections in the future. Being rejected for a job is inevitable in our careers. We cannot always win, but we can learn from our losses. The next step is to re-evaluate your portfolio. For each job that I apply, I try to make sure that my portfolio fits the needs of the potential client. Do your research and show your clients that you are there for them, not yourself.

What if your "client" is a college and does not necessary have a criteria for what should or should not be in the portfolio?

Still some of these can be applied. Certain schools have certain criteria, and brand. Research and  talk with students who accepted you can understand more about  what they are looking for, and may be rejection was not just because of your portfolio.

Thanks Cassandra and Saya! Your advice has been really helpful!

Normally in our profession rejection happens: 1-Before getting the project/job: Then may be you didn't have enough experience or strong portfolio for the job or you had, but couldn't presenting yourself they way you should (in interview, meetings,...).

2-After getting job: Then it will be the communication problem with your client, or misunderstanding of project. Or under estimating the requirements and your potentials.

In all cases you don't have to take it personal, and let it affect your enthusiasum. Just search what was wrong in the situation and how you can make it better. We only can change situations that are under our control and we should do it, but if there are other factors that we can not change it or it is out of our control, then at least you know you did your best.

Thanks for the advice! I will take that into consideration next time. :-)
