Permalink Reply by Saya on December 19, 2011 at 11:13am I have hard time when people come and ask me they just want a "simple deisng". I realized they don't mean "minimal design" or " less" but what they mean is give me discount or I don't need much design time (which normally turns out opposite)
Permalink Reply by Linda J. McGuire on December 20, 2011 at 3:35am Oh, yes. I can sing along on the chorus of THAT song! I finally made a samples brochure, showing samples from a very basic layout, some intermediate layouts, and some complex layouts, with a description of what would be involved with each, that I could use when someone wanted a quote. (I figure that works in the world of catalog shopping...) It helps folks get their mind around what the variables are, which is helpful for someone who has never hired a designer before. They may have some idea in their mind about what they want but no idea whether they are asking for a big project or not.
--One thing I HAVE noticed though, over the course of many years: any client who comes in with HUGE ideas and lots of enthusiasm about how their project is going to change the world and make it a better place, and can't settle down to the specifics of what the project is going to be, has generally NOT thought about the fact that all the custom work they want is going to cost a lot. In their mind, they are inviting you to be a part of their vision, and budget-breaking design and production costs simply don't fit their plan. On the other hand, neither does scaling back the vision to where it is NOT budget-breaking. If you take on one of these folks as a client, GET A CONTRACT before you start anything. If they object to the idea, politely decline the project. You don't need the headache.
Permalink Reply by Michelle Denise on January 28, 2012 at 2:48pm I'd say using too many drawings/images/colors/patterns on a single design. Some people just overdo it and it ruins the whole piece - you don't know what to focus on anymore. Less is more, always. It's also tiring for the eyes to look at an artwork that has clashing colors. I've seen some of these works on different kinds of printing - poster printing, label printing and custom sticker printing.

UCreative gathers information when a user registers on Site, subscribes to the UCreative Newsletter, responds to a survey, or fills out a form.
