Redesigned Book Covers of Risa Rodil

by . April 24th, 2014

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

This metaphorical phrase means that we shouldn’t prejudge the value of something based on it’s physical appearance alone. Literally, how well-written a book is determined not by looking at it’s cover, but through reading it. Some books have bad covers but contain good content; vice versa. With these beautifully redesigned book covers by designer Risa Rodil, we may have been mistaken.

Risa Rodil is a 21 year old illustrator-slash-letterer-slash-nerdfighter from Manila, Philippines. She studied AB-Multimedia Arts at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Risa describes her work as a collection of “brightly colored typography and retro illustrations”. When asked about the programs she use in doing her designs, she answered Adobe Photoshop (for web designs, gifs and photo manipulations), Adobe Illustrator (for illustrations, vectors, typography and minimalist posters), Adobe After Effects (for kinetic or animated typography), and  Adobe Flash (for animations).

Risa designs posters for her favorite books, movies and TV shows such as: The Hunger GamesHarry PotterDivergentSupernaturalSherlockDoctor WhoPercy JacksonFrozenJohn GreenHannibal, and many more.

Her body of work is an array of stunning print design (lettering, minimalist posters, typography, illustration, redesigned cover and posters) and some delightful animation and web design.

Featured below are some of Risa’s marvelous redesigned book covers. Who wouldn’t buy these books with their stunning covers that practically call you from across the shelf of a bookstore?
