You! Be Inspired! – The Fingering Project

by . January 17th, 2013

If you’ve ever been a fan of investigative drama TV series such as CSI or NCIS, you’ll definitely agree that one of the most important pieces of evidence that an investigator can utilize in order to solve a criminal case are fingerprints. But aside from being a critical component of an investigation, fingerprints are also the weapon of choice for NY-based artist Judith Ann Braun for creating his one-of-a-kind art pieces.

Born in Albany, New York in 1947 this multimedia artist has been in and out of the art industry for most part of her life and has worked with an array of materials and mediums for the creation of several of his collections. She initially started as a realistic figure painter back in the 1980s but eventually ventured into other mediums and techniques such as the use of photocopiers, drawing on paper and eventually finger painting.

Judith Braun can also be considered as an artistic activist with most of his work putting emphasis on various social and political issues specifically those pertaining to sexual and racial topics. She even changed her then married name from Weinman, to Weinperson as a way to show political correctness. Moreover, some of her work features elements such as human genitals and nude bodies which probably stems from her own experiences of domestic violence.

Her current project entitled “Fingering” is a collection of paintings drawn by Judith Braun with the use of her finger usually dipped in charcoal and executed on paper or directly painted onto the wall.
