Isn't this great. Another community to keep up with. The idea behind this one seems quite Facebook-ish, which isn't so bad, but how in the heck am I supposed to keep up.

I think as web professionals we are expected to maintain a professional appearance on as many social sites as possible. I almost feel like I am obligated to create and maintain a profile every time a new networking/portfolio site comes out.

I think I am going to limit myself to a sect few and remove the rest of the accounts. But how do I decide which are the best accounts to retain. There's Deviant Art, Zerply, FaceBook, LinkedIn, a LARGE number of portfolio sites... Do you guys have any suggestions? What are your favorite networking/portfolio sites?

This really was just a test blog post.. but hey if you have some comments about my rant.. feel free!

I have to agree that Facebook can be good for catching up with friends and family, but the majority of the time I am trying to update all of these other portfolio sites with work and information. You totally feel obligated to join and sign up for the next thing but for me Twitter has been the exception, for some reason I just can't get on that wagon.

Yes. I understand. My suggestion would be to consider how much time do you want to spend on that sites and witch are beneficial. I personally don't like social sites cause they are time consuming. I spend so much time on SEO at my website or working on projects that I actually have to consider those site as part of my work with mean that if I feel that it won't bring me any benefits there is no point in them for me. As well I thing it is beter to focus at one thing then try to manage so many at a time.

The issue I have with removing my facebook account is that is what my family and friends use. We are also talking about things like Zerply, identyme.com, dribbble, carbonmade, BeHance, you get the idea. I mean, I feel like I need to have a spot in all of those, but I can't commit the time to all in order to maintain and be a productive member of that community. What do you guys use other than ucreative?

What is everyone's favorite online community's? Not just for social, but for creative as well. Where do you focus your energy?

I agree with Alexandra. I removed my facebook account as well. It is waste of time. Fake friends and stupid games. Here seems to be better place more focused on right people.

For professional networks, I would recommend you join the networks where you feel the community helps you become better at your job. That differs for every individual.

I actually deactivated my Facebook account a while back, because I came to realize what a huge waste of time it was. I find this community much more useful for me, allowing me to keep track of what's new in my job area, rather than in a stranger's cat's feed.
