I just joined the Sketchbook Project.

Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the world.

After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.

Anyone - from anywhere in the world - can be a part of the project. To participate and have us send you a sketchbook that will go on tour, start by choosing a theme to the right.

I first heard of this last year but I was too late to join so I'm really happy that the Art House Co-op is doing it again. If anyone else would like to be a part of this you can use the promo code: ADDAFRIEND and get $2 off the fee to join.

As digital artists and creatives it's sometimes hard to remember that we can work offline as well as on. I know that I have the bad habit of just going straight to the computer to start working. Now, that isn't all bad but do I save every aspect of creation? No. The files would fill my hard drive in a matter of days. Do I save my failed ideas when I work only on the computer? Not when I have the all mighty power of ctrl+z!

I loved sketchbooks when I was in school and somewhere between then and now I've forgotten what I loved about them. I think they're one of the best ways for anyone doing creative work to organize thoughts, store ideas and work through creative problems. My old sketchbooks hold some of my best ideas and some of my most spectacular failures and that, I think, is a treasure and a great resource for inspiration.

I hope The Sketchbook Project will help remind me to keep sketching my ideas and brainstorming where everything, failures and successes alike, can be saved and held onto for future inspiration. Maybe being a part of this project will even help me rekindle my love for pencil and paper. I've been away from traditional drawing for too long.

If you'd like to join The Sketchbook Project go to the Art House Co-op and sign up. I think it's an absolutely wonderful project for creatives like us to be a part of. Don't forget to use the promo code ADDAFRIEND to get $2 off of sign-up!

@lila - You're welcome. I found this project last year too but it was too close to the deadline for to get involved. I'm glad I found it again and was able to share it here. I just got my sketch book the other day. I plan on scanning in some of it and posting it here and on my blog. If you take part in the project I'd love to see some of your sketches as well. :)

I had thought about doing this last year. I never heard about it before but some how stumbled upon the website. It somewhat left my head until a couple of weeks ago. But I could not remember who was putting it on, though a simple google search I probably could have found the website. I'm so glad that I came across this. Thank you so much for sharing!
