Interview with real people, knowing true stories and learning from a fellow creative, this is UCreative Spotlight.
This month, we get back to Europe as UCreative brings you a dose of smashing and hardcore surreal digital art from Ukraine by Alexander Fedosov! This 26 year old digital artist uses his vast imagination and creativity to create surreal concepts and perfectly execute them using Photoshop - turning them into amazing pieces of dark fantasy portraits. Lets dig deeper in his career as we feature him and his art in the interview below.

Q: Hi Alexander! Welcome to Ucreative. How are you doing today?
Hi, Ucreative! I’m doing well.

Q: Let’s start the creativity flowing. Describe to us your style of digital art.
I think it’s mostly dark fantasy with some surreal elements. But I don’t insist if somebody thinks that I am wrong. :)

Q: How did you start your career as a Digital Artist?
I was drawing at an early age, as young as I can remember myself. I never dreamt that I would be a professional artist, but when people started paying attention to my works and paying for them, then that's when it all changed.

Q: Can we take a peek at your station? What are your tools of the trade? Describe your workplace.
It is an ordinary PC with Wacom tablet and two monitors, nothing really special. Actually I think two monitors is the best solution for great productivity, because sometimes drawing is really boring, and you need something to keep you awake. I recommend it especially to novices.
Q: What are your creative inspirations?
Hmm... There are lots of them. First of all, I get inspirations from modern sci-fi, fantasy and surreal artists like Dave Rapoza, Kekai Kotaki, Xueguo Yang and others. They’re really pushing me forward every time I see their works.
From old school artists, for sure it’s Arnold Böcklin, Brom, Giger and Beksinsky. Actually I love very wide range of XX century artists - from fantastic realists to Pierre Soulage’s researches of black.
And also, some biggest inspirations of my works are based from religions, fate, God and gods.

Q: We are very curious about how you create your stunning pieces. Can you take us to your creative process? Where do you start?
As others, I start from the idea of picture, and I think that is the hardest part of whole work. The problem always is to refuse bad ideas that I love. You must play a role as different persons and try to imagine how to see your picture in a different perspective. That's the hardest part.
After that, there is nothing special in my process. As others, I work in three steps: sketch, painting and details. And I can’t tell you something new about it, just watch live streams and master-classes from other artists and you will get everything you need for work.
Q: Your digital artworks are amazing! How long does it take you to finish an artwork?
Thank you! It’s different every time. Sometimes it takes few days, sometimes longer. And usually I spend about a week thinking of my idea, to ensure that it is exact idea I really want to draw.

Q: Do you like music? Would you share us your playlist?
Sure, I like music, my latest find is Russian band “Grizzly Knows No Remorse”, which plays really great hardcore/southern rock.
Also, I’m big fan of thrash metal, like Iron Angel, Mortification, Warbringer, Havok, Terrordome, Woe of Tyrants and others new-school bands.
Generally, I like a wide range of musical genres: ambient, noise, IDM, death metal and so on. So there is a big surprise for some people when, for example, after melodic IDM/ambient, “Tycho” starts to play something like “Nasum” or “Converge”.
Q: Where can we check out more updates of your works?
I usually use Deviantart and Facebook to share my art. But I also have Behance and CGHub profiles.

Q: Any advice to aspiring digital artists out there?
Work hard. I mean really hard and every single day. Remember: artists don’t have vacations. Ever. Try to absorb any information that you can get, because if you know the structure of a car, you can draw it. If you don’t — you can’t. And don’t be yourself when you look at your art, throw away all ambitions, wishes, trust in yourself, self-respect and other crap and you will understand what to do.
Q: Thank you Alexander for spending some time with us on this interview. Anyone you would like to be thankful for?
Thank you for inviting me, it is a pleasure for me. I want to thank Oleg Paschenko, he is great Russian artist and poet. His works and words really helped me.
