What Logo Design REALLY Means – How Professional Logo Design Affects Everything

by . July 23rd, 2012

We face a lot of questions about visual design, not just for print media, but for every design problem that has to do with building and developing your brand.

Professional logo design is a heck of a lot more complicated than people realize. Ironic since the challenge of logo design has always been to communicate ideas in the simplest of terms.

This video from PBS explains in a nutshell how professional logo design came to be. This is a must see for anyone interested in improving their branding.

Think of it this way. Most of us have some really embarrassing pictures from when we were younger that make us go “what the hell was I thinking? Why did I even think these hammer pants looked good on anyone?”. The same holds true for bad logo designs – they just seem like good ideas at the time.

As a printing company we see a lot of logos that don’t mean or even suggest anything. If you’re planning to spend anything on promotions, please do your brand a huge favor and really consider what you really want to say.

Empathize then simplify.
