12 Intricate Infographics at the Info•Rama Exhibit

Infographic poster designs that are part-educational resources and part-GREAT works of art.

Info•Rama is an exhibit of sophisticated, screen-printed infographics crafted by artists Tom Whalen and Kevin Tong at the Phone Booth Gallery in Long Beach, California. Both artists designed posters that can either function as art or as educational references, and could possibly adorn classroom walls. That is why the international leg of the exhibit is scheduled to go along with the start of the school year. The infographic posters are both striking and brilliant. It distinguishes them from ordinary educational posters because of the screen-printing process used to create each piece.

Illustrator Kevin Tong—known for his fantastical work—have collaborated with Info•Rama to design a brilliantly colored, 6-part guide to human anatomy. He also created a blazing, modern-looking infographic about the life and work of Nikola Tesla, a futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electricity supply system. He even has a noiresque illustration depicting the brief history of the USS Los Angeles, a zeppelin airship built by the U.S. Navy in 1924.

Artist Tom Whalen, on the other hand, showcased his own style which draws inspiration from vintage illustrations. In his guide to the first transcontinental train, Whalen used typefaces reminiscent of the Wild West. His simple, stylized illustration is seen further in his brief look into the life and habits of a stegosaurus. Interestingly, Whalen used different orientations — from standard to banner-like dimensions, using the latter in his Octopus and Samurai infographics.
