There is a plethora of colors in this world that is more complex and varied than a simple color spectrum that rainbow represents. So no wonder why most of us are having a hard time describing a particular shade of a color. Well maybe for other people, a red is a red regardless of its hue and intensity. But for artists, designers, writers, make-up artist and even for somebody who is planning to have their room painted with their specific favorite color, it is very significant to describe the exact shade of a color to get it right.
Well Ingrid Sundberg – a writer and an illustrator – found a way to somehow ease the difficulty of describing colors using words. She created a 12 color chart collection that contains different shades of colors with specific names which she called The Color Thesaurus. This color reference helps her to add specificity to her writing and paint a more evocative image on her reader’s mind especially when describing a specific color. Although intended for writing, Other professions like designers, paintings, make up artist, etc. will surely find this reference quite helpful in a way.
“I’ve learned that we all have different associations with color words, For example the color sapphire is a light blue to me (since that’s the color of the sapphire on my engagement ring), but a sapphire can also be a very dark blue. I doubt there can be an ‘official color guide,’ as color is so subjective”. – Sundberg stated on her interview with the BoredPanda
“I use it all the time when I write. It really helps in revision as I try to make my work fresh and vibrant. My blog readers say they’ve been using the thesaurus in their writing processes as well”.
“This was something I made for myself based on color words I liked and the colors the words evoked for me. I use it all the time when I write. It really helps in revision as I try to make my work fresh and vibrant”.– Sundberg explained.
