Another week has ended, and now it’s time for another roundup of design news! We spent the week poring through our RSS readers and sharing links we found interesting, and I hope you find them useful. Read on and learn a thing or two about the current goings on in design!

 

The Cooper-Hewitt recently announced this year’s winners of its 13th National Design Awards. The winners are a talented bunch, coming from 10 categories including Lifetime Achievement, Design Mind, Architecture Design, Product Design, and Communication Design among others. Google also released the list of  Doodle 4 Google 2012‘s winners and we can’t help but stare in awe at the awesome artwork from this year’s winners. This year’s competition had contestants working around the theme “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…”. Kudos to the company for promoting artistic talent among the youth!

 

The Alva Emerging Fellowship program from Behance’s 99% caught our attention, too. This program grants support to three young innovators under the age of 30 who show great potential in creating products that could benefit people from around the globe. See the three 2012 Alva Emerging Fellows and be inspired to create sustainable and useful product designs.

 

Internet Week New York celebrates internet culture and serves as a hub for showcasing the technology industry in the Big Apple. Attend events from May 14-21 2012 and gather the latest news about arts and culture, startups, and other topics about the worldwide web. Different activities are offered for attendees to enjoy. If you’re looking for a way to protect your content on Flickr from being used without proper attribution on Pinterest, you can now breathe a sigh of relief. Here’s the solution created for Flickr users whose work are misused on the hottest inspiration board website today.

One of our favorite art hubs, Gallery Nucleus, never runs out of wonderful exhibits. Their featured artists and artworks never fail to get our creative juices flowing! Upcoming exhibits include a Tribute to The Beatles in July, so mark your calendars!

 

 

Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” is one of the most recognizable and often parodied pieces of art. It didn’t come as a surprise when the painting was sold at an auction for $119.9 million. The proceeds from the sale will be used for a worthwhile cause that includes a new museum and art promotion.

 

 

Frank Lloyd Wright is often branded as the greatest American architect of all time. His contributions to graphic design, however, are not that well-known. Brain Pickings featured his designs that further added to the popularity of Mr. Wright’s illustrious body of work.
