Tyler Orehek is a NY-based photographer specializing in portraiture photography with an emphasis on vintage compositions. His passion for vintage photography led to the creation of his vintage photo series back in early 2012. The series was created to pay homage to an era long gone. Through distinctive and wistfully crafted compositions, Tyler was seemingly able to travel in time with his then-three-year-old son (and his younger daughter on occasion) who served as his exclusive model. Tyler put an effort in combining authentic antiques, vintage clothing, and carefully selected background to put so much vintage feel into the photo. The photographs possess an undeniable sentimentality, which transports the observer to another time and place.
“I have always had a love for vintage historical photography as well as vintage portraiture and street photography and thus I was quick to realize that that was the style in which I wanted to shoot. My intent was not and is not to replicate existing vintage photographs but to capture the mood, feel and the visceral emotion of that period. Having a child in lieu of an adult in my work allows the viewer to focus on the ‘essence’ of those past environments and professions with greater clarity through juxtaposition. Children, having no preconceptions of the roles I place them in, can more truly embody the individuals they’re endeavoring to be within my compositions.”
