Astonishing Drawings of Christina Mrozik

by . August 1st, 2014

Talented artist Christina Mrozik from Michigan, USA has magical hands that will leave everyone stunned once they saw her outstanding drawing and ideas. usually draws using ink or marker on paper and add lively color by using watercolor and high-pigmented acrylics. It’s funny that Christina comes up with best ideas for her projects when she’s tired.  She brainstorms before going to bed and writes the things she came up with when she wakes up.

“Once I have an idea, I put down a couple sketches, and then use my art school super knowledge to see what I can improve. Usually my first sketch is not the best it could be, so I adjust the composition or the color palette to better the piece, even if it doesn’t match what’s in my head.”

Christina achieve such realism by just drawing it or sometimes she make a research on different positions of flowers or wings but then put the reference away and do it from memory. She sometimes uses a very specific reference photo and draws it verbatim. And sometimes she takes a walk to take photos of different plants and animals.

“I regularly spend 80 to 120 hours on a piece. Lately I’ve been trying to do a few pieces that are smaller or have less detail, but even then, 40 hours would be something I consider “fast.”

“Beauty is when our longing for how things should be collides with reality. It is a thing that unfolds, yet simultaneously striking us in the heart.”

Christina is inspired by many of the early naturalists such as Audobon, but also by visual storytellers such as Rackham. She views the art making process as one of portraiture, in which analyzing the drawing helps make sense of peoples’ histories and abilities. Currently based in Grand Rapids Michigan, she has shown both regionally and nationally.
