The Chinese Zodiac with female figures as bodies.
A macabre and beautifully grotesque series of illustrations by Lu Ke features female figures with heads of an animal from the Chinese Zodiac, decorated with traditional Chinese clothes and jewelry.
Lu Ke is a Brooklyn, New York-based artist who specializes in traditional painting and digital art. She earned a BFA in Animation at China Academy of Art in 2009. She is currently an MFA student focusing on Digital Imaging in the Department of Digital Arts at Pratt Institute.
We are used to seeing the creatures of the Chinese Zodiac drawn in the traditional Chinese style. These black and white pencil drawings however, gave these wonderful animals a surreal yet weirdly beautiful touch.
Although the Tiger and the Ox is missing, it means that there may be two more of these beautiful illustrations to come.
